So I threw in about $3,000 and got myself 5 BTC at the time. That’s when the BTC price is more than 600$. I didn’t sell when it goes to $1000/BTC, because I want to see how much it can climb.
Well after that, the price drop to 200$, and my friend tell me that don’t worry, keep “holding”. I then ask myself, what is so special about bitcoin, that many people so excited about it, and they keep on believing the idea no matter what?
And since then, I start my research about blockchain and get hook up. Just like that, I became a blockchain enthusiast. I believe in this industry’s future and how it will change people’s lives just like the internet did. I was working for Coindesk as an analyst since then (besides of invest in projects myself). I also worked as an engineer for Celcius
And in mid-2020, I start gourmet galaxy, and here we are!

Gourmet galaxy is the first project combining NFTS, yield farming, and gamification. I am pretty sure we’ve seen similar products in other amas from the Satoshi club. Are you sure you are the first? How does this combination work?

We are not the first NFT nor yield farming nor gamification. But I couldn’t really tell that the other projects are our competitors. For example, if you look closely, you will notice that our gum swap has a similar UI to Uniswap or sushi swap. In terms of NFTS projects, look at AXS or Aaveghostchi (i don’t know if I remember the name right). They trying to gamify blockchain.
But stand on our vision, gourmet aiming to be a DeFi ecosystem, not just a single product. Our most important products will be our games. Each game will be a separate DeFi application. And our games will drive up the demand for our NFTS. So in some way, we are unique with no competitors
For example, you couldn’t really say that falcon swap is a competitor to Uniswap. Because their target customers are different. And our true target is to grow our ecosystem and userbase inside the blockchain industry first, then non-blockchain users later.

Built on Ethereum but powered by Polkadot. How is this possible? Please explain the tech side of it, because at first sight it looks like a marketing trick.
Thomas johnson:
Ahhhh it’s not a marketing trick, but i see that it did a great marketing job haha. We did build on it, and we will be launch cross-chain into Polkadot in Q2. Of 2021 of course.
Building on Ethereum is a safe choice and makes sense for gum now because Gourmet application can be expressed easily as a smart contract, our use case is affordable in terms of gas fees and you don’t need a large amount of transaction throughput or control over the underlying economics of our system, or if you need interoperability with other Ethereum ecosystem projects at launch. Development on Ethereum is generally going to be simpler than polkadot.

If on the other hand, in the future our application is best served by a dedicated blockchain, if it needs higher transaction throughput performance, our user wants full control of the environment, state transition function, storage, and economics that your application runs under, and if you are okay with higher implementation complexity, or have use cases that require integration across blockchains, Polkadot will satisfy these requirements. So that’s why we will get to this in the future, scalability is the way to go!

How the game will work? Because currently, I can’t imagine a game on Ethereum
it will be slow and cost a lot.

Not really, because not all of the “action” required users to make “transactions” on the blockchain.
Another reason is that when we start coding our apps, polkadot havent go mainnet yet, so Ethereum is the way to go!

The galaxy market (called food market before) takes no requirement, except for a small listing fee (by gum of course). The galaxy market will be divided into 2 sections. First one run by Gourmet galaxy, which sells foods. The second section is ffa place, where users can set the buy/sell price of their own items. The reason that we divided it into 2 sections is that there are only 2 sources of food: market place and staking from the planet. So at first, there may be not much free food circulating in the open market, so users must buy food from gourmet galaxies in order to create a planet. But after a while, users can buy from each other!

Commander x is a game that we going to launch inside NFTuniverse as a commander, you can own a fleet of starships, but you can only command one at a time. Starships are specialized, and some are better suited to specific tasks than others. If combat is your focus, you can battle pirates and hostile drones in the gourmet universe.

The real use of commander x, just like every other mini-games within NFT universe will be to drive the demand of our NFTS. With more games, more people stay with our ecosystem. More demand for tokens.
Another thing is, commander x maybe a fun small game, but our other games inside NFT universe are actually a DeFi application. Looking at our first game (which is currently in beta phase and will roll out at the end of q1). It’s a bitcoin option game on the surface. But underneath, it’s using a dex model-amm technology to match the order of players. So actually we are trying to gamify the experience of DeFi, including trading and even lottery in the future (yep lottery is a financial segment too).

Because Ethereum is mature and safe, but have problems about scalability that only ETH 2.0 can solve.
Meanwhile, Polkadot is promising, but it’s new. We can’t be 100% sure of Polkadot is 100% safe. And we don’t want to gamble with our investor’s money
Also, building only on one Polkadot’s Parachain may not the best option to give out a full product in time, since developing in Ethereum is still way easier

It’s not for a sake of Money obviously, just looking at our initial and fully diluted cap haha.
To be honest, you are the first users in AMAs to ask me this question. And also, to be honest, my main motivation to build Gourmet Galaxy is just … we want to connect people to each other.
I myself also a gamer. Since Nintendo time playing Mario Bros, to Diablo, World of Warcraft, and now I’m still playing Dota with friends (when I’m not coding or developing haha), I realized that game is one thing that connects people.
And also Blockchain will help connect people in a way that humans can’t experience before. That’s the purpose of Web3 technology. But lots of people still looking at Blockchain as some kind of scam, bubble, etc… So by bringing games and Blockchain together, I can try to connect the masses, so they realize how much they can improve their life using Blockchain. It’s a long and hard way, but it’s my motivation if you ask.
For your fresh exp, you should just acquire some GUM, and play our games when it rolls out. And if you don’t like my products/games, come and tell me then I will try my best to improve them!

FOOD Market is an open marketplace, allowing users to freely trade platform tokens between one another. There are two types of sellers in the FOOD Market: The Foundation and Users. The Foundation is in charge of providing basic PLANET, FOOD, and Recipe in exchange for GUM. The Foundation is run by smart contracts and will be responsible for the balance between Supply and Demand of in-game assets and tokens.

Users can also use the FOOD Market to exchange in-game assets (FOOD, PLANET) into GUM and vice versa. The real benefits of this “marketplace” model are to:

Gourmet Galaxy has submitted an independent audit to be carried out by Certik on our code.
When it comes to “being your own game,” having the ability to evaluate the security of the tools at your disposal becomes a necessity. We think that Smart contract audits play a critical role in evaluating the technical risks associated with a dApp, especially as the Gourmet project is a combination of Defi, NFTs, and Gaming. We are confident that our contract is complete, but validation is required. And we respect this, we respect the users in our ecosystem.

In the final part, we tested the knowledge in terms of the Gourmet Galaxy project. They’ve prepared 4 questions for this part, so everyone could be a part and answer. Participants had 10 minutes to answer. 400$ was distributed between the winners.
