Samsung Dives Deeper into Metaverse Using Decentraland (MANA) Capabilities

The electronics giant Samsung introduced a new feature allowing clients to virtually attend quests or live music events. The company’s new metaverse experience is called Samsung 837X and is modeled on the physical flagship location in New York.

Samsung Joins The Metaverse League

In a January 6 announcement, the Korean firm described the feature as an “immersive world that can be explored virtually.” Samsung 837X is an “experiential playground for people to discover the amazing possibilities when technology and culture collide,” the tech behemoth added.

Fans who want to take advantage of the opportunity would first need to enter Decentraland – a leading virtual reality platform powered by the Ethereum blockchain.

“Best of all, you can earn NFT badges and exclusive, limited-supply collections of Samsung Decentraland wearables to customize your avatars,” the company explained.

Samsung 837X will be open in Decentraland for a limited period. Throughout 2022, the firm intends to bring the experience to more people by launching a multiverse approach on new platforms. Michelle Crossan-Matos – Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Communications at Samsung Electronics America – brought more light to the initiative:

“At Samsung 837X, we’re excited to tell our connectivity, sustainability, and customization stories in a novel way, in a one-of-a-kind space. Metaverse empowers us to transcend physical and spatial limits to create unique virtual experiences that could not happen otherwise. Innovation is in our DNA, and we can’t wait for you all to experience this burgeoning virtual world.”

A few days ago, the Korean entity announced its plans to jump on the non-fungible token bandwagon. To achieve its goal, Samsung would integrate a new “NFT Aggregation Platform” on its smart TVs starting this year. The feature would be available on the following models: MicroLed, Neo QLED, and The Frame versions, as users will be able to purchase digital collectibles directly from the TV sets. Assuming the company completes its mission, it will become the first in its field with such a move.

Other Blockchain Initiatives

The technology giant has been quite active in the cryptocurrency space lately. Earlier this week, it partnered with Veritree – a blockchain platform powered by Cardano – to combat the adverse effects of climate change.

Following the development, Samsung vowed to mobilize the growth of more than two million trees on the territory of Madagascar by the end of Q1 2022. Commenting on the matter, Mark Newton – Managing Director at the company – said:

“Investing in tech innovations, such as those that create efficiency improvements and minimize waste, in combination with nature-based solutions, are vital in the fight against climate change.”
