Opera Launches a Beta Browser for Web3, Gears Up for Emerging Metaverse

Leading web 2.0 browser Opera recently announced the launch of a beta crypto browser to tap into the Web3 movement. According to Opera, this beta version will offer users an array of services and possibilities. These include a constantly updated blockchain news stream, participation in the imminent crypto and NFT airdrops, and a dedicated Web3 events calendar. In addition, users will also have access to a non-fungible token (NFT) gallery, blockchain communities, educational resources, live crypto prices, and gas fees.

According to the Opera team on their new crypto browser initiative:

“In setting up the Crypto Browser Project, we are pursuing an inclusive, multichain strategy and embracing as many dApp [decentralized app] and domain name partnerships as possible with the aim of making the use of crypto and Web3 seamless for our users.”

Opera developed the world’s first browser-based crypto wallet over three years ago. Now, the prominent web 2.0 browser platform has also already forged business partnerships with some of the industry’s heavyweights, including Polygon, Solana, Unstoppable Domains, Nervos, Celo, Handshake and ENS. Some of these partnerships are already active, while others, like Polygon’s, will be officially announced soon.

Opera is also transitioning from Proof of Work (POW) to Proof of Stake (POS) to become more eco-friendly. The platform will begin to use staking to verify new transactions instead of mining.

Web3 is fast emerging as the spiritual successor to Web 2.0 and an integral component of the burgeoning metaverse.
